Money scripts are beliefs about money we absorb in childhood, most often not from words but from watching adults. The American psychologist Brad Klontz described four of them: avoidance, worship, status and vigilance. They work quietly, deciding for us whether to ask for a raise, how much to spend and why money “leaks away”. Seeing your script is the first step towards making money decisions yourself, rather than by family habit.
Four scripts
This questionnaire is based on Brad Klontz's research on money scripts (Klontz et al., 2011). It is not the official Klontz Money Script Inventory and not a scientifically validated test, but a tool for self-reflection. A script is not a sentence: it formed once, and it can change.
